Comparison of raw materials: similar names but different performances
The scientific names of TPE and TPO are thermoplastic elastomers. TPO can be regarded as one of the sub-categories of TPE. Our common TPO is thermoplastic polyolefin elastomer. And what we call TPE subdivided is TPES, styrene thermoplastic elastomer.

Although the names of the two are similar, there are still obvious differences in the materials from the source, and the biggest difference is reflected in the properties of the materials. Both TPE and TPO can withstand a temperature difference of -40°-120°, but TPE performs better in terms of weather resistance and deformation resistance.

As for the smell that everyone is most concerned about, TPO is not as pure as TPE because it is a blend of rubber and polyolefin, so the smell of TPO will be greater, and it needs to be ventilated for several days after production to reduce it, and the finished TPE does not need to be placed, that is be usable. Therefore, TPE has a wider range of applications. In addition to car mats, such as baby pacifiers, medical catheters, breathing masks and other products with high environmental requirements, TPE is also the material of choice. Process comparison: the difference between blister and injection
The other biggest difference between TPE car mats and TPO car mats is the production process! Different from the traditional cutting and sewing of leather or silk loops, TPE car mats are produced through industrial molds. This process is also divided into injection molding and blister molding. Most of TPE car mats are injection molded, and TPO feet The pad is formed by blister.
Let's take a look at the blister molding of TPO material. A general-purpose mold is used as the bottom and the other half develops a special mold. After the flat raw material is heated and softened, it is vacuum-adsorbed on the mold surface and molded after cooling. This process is widely used in plastic products, and in the automotive industry is more used to make trunk mats.
However, when used on car mats, there will be a problem of insufficient thickness of the mats, because the blister is equivalent to processing a piece of paper into a solid, and the raw materials cannot be thicker, so the blister mat will have a thin plastic feel. .
Because the front and back molds are different, the texture is also very different. If the vacuum suction is not complete during processing, it is easy to leave pores and marks.
The biggest advantage of the blister process lies in its low cost. Only half a set of special molds are needed, and the development cost can be greatly reduced. At the same time, the blister will produce scraps during the processing. Some manufacturers save costs and will use the recycled materials for secondary production. Therefore, the blister pads are also prone to residual odors and poor quality control.
Injection molding process:
Compared with blister, the injection molding used in TPE car mats is much taller. Each model develops a complete set of independent molds. These double-layer molds cost hundreds of thousands and are not universal. The advantages brought by the high cost, the injection molding foot pad has a higher degree of fit, different pattern elements can be designed, and the thickness of 10-25mm can be achieved, making the foot pad thicker and more resistant to deformation.

Automated production can be achieved through large injection molding machines, no return material will be produced, and the production capacity will be higher. Qualified production lines and workshops also have strict emission standards for hazardous substances, including at least eight indicators including VOC, to ensure that TPE raw materials are not contaminated during the production process, and the integrated injection molded car floor mats are also more environmentally friendly and safer. Of course, the disadvantage of the injection molding process is that the cost of building the mold and the machine is too high, and a large amount of investment is required to build a complete injection molding production line.
TPE car mats have a natural rubber feel, have good elasticity when stepping on them, and will not be stiff and deformed in winter.
There is a special pattern design under the injection process. DEAO has designed different pattern elements for different brands. Finally, there are many TPO car mats on the market, and they will also pack themselves into TPE car mats. The method of identification is also very simple. Look at its thickness and texture. If it is thin and close to plastic, then it is TPO blister. The foot pad is undoubtedly; if it is thick and more rubber-like, and has a ribbed design, then it is a TPE injection molded foot pad.
